Quotes

Found an interesting quote during my devotion:

「勇敢有兩種:血氣之勇很少知道他要面對的危險;
另外一種卻是高超得多的,冷靜的勇氣,知道要遭遇的危險卻不肯畏縮。」

Finished reading the book from John Maxwell, "Your Road Map for Success."

Picked up a few nice quotes:
  • "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
  • Author Gail Sheehy talked about change, "If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we are not really living. Growth demands a temporary surrender of security. It may mean a giving up a familiar but limiting patterns, safe but unrewarding work, values no longer believed in, relationships that have lost their meaning. As Dostoevsky put it, 'taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what most people fear most.' The real fear should be the opposite course."
  • Seven signs of a great attitude:
  1. Belief in Self
  2. Willingness to see the best in others
  3. Ability to see opportunity everywhere
  4. Focus on solutions
  5. Desire to give
  6. Persistence
  7. Responsibility for their lives
  • On develop character:
WITHOUT CHARACTER                                    WITH CHARACTER
Does what's easiest                                               Does what's right
Controlled by moods                                              Controlled by values
Looks for excuses                                                 Looks for solutions
Quits when challenged                                           Perseveres when challenged
Relies on external motivation                                  Relies on internal motivation
Words and actions don't match                               Words and actions agree
Choices lead to failure                                           Choices add up to success

Useful notes:
  • An article from King's College Hospital in London: Researchers (conducted among cancer patients) tracked the progress of 57 women. Of the ones who had a positive attitude when they were diagnosed with  cancer, 7 out of 10 were alive 10 years later. But of the ones who felt a sense of hopelessness during diagnosis, 8 of 10 had died.                                          (Donald Robinson, "Mind Over Disease," Reader's Digest.)

A perfect day (2)?

According to Chinese Medical Research Institute:
  • 4 am is a dangerous time for senior because blood pressure is the lowest.
  • Wake up at 6 am and breakfast at 7 am will improve immunity.
  • Best working hours are 10-11 am, 3-5 pm (best for meeting customers) and 8-9 pm.

A perfect Day?

According to Chinese Medical Research Institute:
  • The best time to go to bed is 10:30 pm, the easiest time to fall asleep.
  • Midnight is the weakest time, people should only rest, and not more activities.
  • One AM is the key to the brain alertness. If you try to sleep at this time, you are more likely to be active and less likely to fall asleep.
